Jerry's Party!

The Federal Defender's Office hosted a party for Jerry yesterday, October 14, 2005. Jerry and his wife, Roz, drove up from Coley Cove, to attend. The Orlando and Tampa offices made a video for Jerry encouraging Jerry in his recovery, which was shown during the party in Jacksonville. A gift basket was presented, which included many wonderful presents, including several books on tape, including Kirk Douglas's memoir about his recovery from his stroke, called Stroke of Luck, and Lance Armstrong's memoir. Other gifts included a UofF Gator's Notebook with all the stats and info on the current Florida Gators football team.

We all shared food, conversation and laughter in the new conference room, then Jerry got a tour of all the new interior improvements that had been completed in the office in the past months. The office really is looking beautiful. [Kudos to Fletcher Peacock for getting this done and for the beautiful design choices! It really is a showplace.]

The most wonderful thing for me was seeing Jerry walk on his own power. With the aid of a walker, but no other assistance, Jerry made his way downstairs to the car after stopping to talk to John at Combs Barber Shop.

It was a wonderful party. Jerry is continuing to make terrific progress, and I know that before we know it he will be back to work.

Photos and videos were made during the party and we hope to upload some soon.

August 12, 2005 Update

August 12, 2005

Dear Friends,

Jerry has been at Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville since July 5. We feel truly blessed to be here. Brooks’ superior services and compassionate care have been a source of comfort and hope for our family.

Jerry has 4 ½ hours of therapy Monday through Friday. He has made tremendous gains and his doctor and therapists are extremely pleased with his progress. His estimated discharge date is August 17.

Our next stop is “Home Sweet Home.” Jerry will continue outpatient rehabilitation through Brooks in St. Augustine. We believe in Jerry’s full recovery and continue to praise God for the great things he has done and continues to do for us.

Once again we want to THANK YOU for your prayers, cards and visits. You are welcome to come see us at the river!

God Bless You,
Rosiland, Kyle and Leslie Cribbs

August 3, 2005 Update

Several friends who have visited Jerry at Brooks Rehab have reported how well he is doing - he gets outside in a wheelchair to enjoy the day in between undergoing intensive physical rehab.

It is still expected that he will be able to go home by the middle of August. Roz will take him back to Brooks for continuing physical therapy on an out-patient basis.

Jerry Continues to Improve and Will Be Going Home In About One Month

Reports from Brooks Rehab are very, very encouraging. Jerry is doing well. He is able to talk and make wisecracks - he is able to get up on the parallel support bars and "walk," and is taking food orally, etc. The current plan has Jerry going home in about one month.

If you want to visit Jerry at Brooks, please call his wife, Roz, first and clear the visit. But Jerry is having visitors and he is encouraged by his visitors.

We are all thankful to God for Jerry's progress.

Jerry Has Been Moved to Brooks Rehab in Jax

Jerry was moved from Shands in Gainesville Tuesday July the5th to Brooks Rehab center here in Jax! Brooks is a very good rehabilitation center where he will receive ongoing care and treatment.

Last week when Roz, Jerry's wife, told us about the anticipated move, she said that she'd even be allowed to stay at the facility with him and he maybe allowed visitors, as Roz feels appropriate.

If you'd like to keep sending cards, his new address is:

Eddie Jerry Cribbs
3599 University Blvd South
Jacksonville, FL 32216

He's still known under his true legal name so be sure to address it to Eddie Jerry Cribbs.

We'll try to keep you updated as we learn more or after we've been able to see Jerry.
